here exist many species of wood. Only a handful, however, are used in Tom Cyprych Furniture. This is due wholly to availability.

ince Tom does not mass produce furniture, he must purchase wood on an as-needed basis. That is, wood is generally purchased from a saw mill only after it is known what type(s) of wood will be needed for a given project. This feature adds to the truly made-to-order nature of Tom's furniture. Any piece can be made from any of the following woods (links open new window):

  • American Black Walnut
  • Aromatic Red Cedar
  • Basswood
  • Black Cherry
  • Eastern White Pine
  • Hard Maple (Sugar Maple)
  • Poplar
  • Red Oak
  • White Oak
  • Yellow Birch
  •

hese woods are readily available from sawmills in the Western PA/Eastern OH/Northern WV area, and as such any of these breeds may be used for any piece of furniture that Tom builds.

could try to describe these woods, but I wouldn't do them justice, especially given a really great web site that does just this, entitled the Wood Is Good Library. To view a very detailed description of any of the woods listed above, just click on the species name and a new browser window will open with the Wood Is Good description of that species.
